Weekly Devotional: Language – should we always talk nicely?

An argument. Curse words. Should we be saying these things? Should we continue to insult each other with our choice of words? What kinds of words should be in our vocabulary? Well in the Bible, there are many verses that talks about language and how to talk and communicate with one another.

Proverbs 15:1
A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.

Luke 6:35
But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Ephesians 4:15
But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

Ephesians 4:29
Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers.

Ephesians 4:32
And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Colossians 4:6
Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.

James 3:5
Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!

I hope you will start to soften your tone when you talk and resolve your arguments peacefully and with grace. Maybe don’t insult each other with curses and instead, always talk nicely.
