Recently I was having some health complications, and so naturally, I went to the doctor to see what was going on. When I went, she told me that I needed to take an allergy test, which I did, and those tests revealed that I had a lot of food allergies, and it was making my blood unhealthy! So what do you think she told me to do?
You’re right! She told me to avoid all the foods I was allergic to, and to take some different medicines that would helpful to my blood.
So, of course I avoided those foods as if they would kill me instantly, and faithfully took my multiplicity of medicines. It’s amazing what we as humans will do for our physical well being, isn’t it?
You know, that makes me think of something else. Jesus is the Great Physician and He promises to cleanse us from all unrighteousness, and guess what? You don’t have to go get any tests done, or take any horrible tasting medicines! All you have to do is follow the “prescription” given you in 1 John 1:9.
“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”. That’s an encouraging promise, isn’t it?
Friends, we are deathly allergic to sin! But why is it that unlike me, when the doctor told me to stop eating certain foods, and I followed her instructions to a T, we just go on and keep going back to our old ways of sin?
Temptation is a very real thing, but we have a promise from God that says… “Blessed is the man who endures temptation; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.” (James 1:12) It’s very encouraging to know, that if we endure the little temptations and trials of this life, we will receive a crown of life!
So go ahead, ask Jesus to forgive you of your sins, you’ll be glad you did. 🙂
